13 Fun Facts About The Lake of the Ozarks!

The Lake of the Ozarks is the #1 Recreational Lake in the Country by no mistake! We offer wonderful Lake activities to locals and visitors alike, from water skiing, boating and paddle boarding. The Lake isn't just a great place for boating though, our rolling hills and beautiful landscapes make for a wonderful place to hike, bike and camp too! We all agree that the Lake of the Ozarks is amazing, but how did it get this way? Here are a few fun facts about how this great area got started!

The Lake of the Ozarks was born in 1931 when Bagnell Dam was completed.

The surrounding areas of Camden, Miller and Morgan counties hosts over 4 million tourists each year.

The Lake of the Ozarks is the largest privately owned lake in the United States.

Because of its unusual shape, the Lake of the Ozarks has been given the nickname, "Magic Dragon".

Bagnell Dam was the largest - and last - major dam in the U.S. to be built with private investment.

The average daily temperature of the lake area during summer is 89.7 degrees and in winter it averages a mild 45.5 degrees.

Bagnell Dam is one-half mile long, rising 148 feet high from bedrock. That’s comparable to a building 12 stories high and seven blocks long.

At full pool the lake holds 617 billion gallons or 87 cubic feet of water, enough to supply the entire city of St. Louis for 12 years.

40 percent of Missourians who own two homes, own one at the Lake of the Ozarks.

The Bagnell Dam actually got its name from a railroad man who formed his own town and then named it after himself. William Bagnell platted a town bearing his name on June 30, 1883. The owners of the new dam chose the Bagnell name, and “Bagnell Dam” was born.

The Lake of the Ozarks' 1,375 miles of shoreline is longer than the entire state of California.

To build the dam workmen mapped 100 square miles & cleared 30,000 acres.

Bagnell Dam has 8 turbines capable of generating 212 million watts of electricity & pumping 1.4 million gallons of water per second.

Another fun fact, is that you will find the best bar & grill at the Lake of the Ozarks! Casablanca is an awesome place to sit back and enjoy our delicious CasaDog, piled high nachos and outstanding sandwiches. 6 Reasons to Enjoy a Glass of Craft Beer

There's nothing quite like the delicious taste of craft beers. There's also nothing craftier than a craft beer - the way it's made down to the way it's enjoyed is detailed and meticulous. At Casagrotto, we take our beer very seriously. We have over 15 craft beers on tap. These kegs of beer are kept at 28 degrees and then pumped through our glycol system which brings these flavors to your frosted glass at 24 degrees. Our craft beers at the Lake of the Ozarks are delicious and here are 6 reasons you should come enjoy one...or two!

1. Craft Beers are Tastier!

The smaller craft brewers are in the business to make a delicious beer. They aren't trying to cut costs, water down their beer and increase their stock prices. Larger commercial companies tend to make their beers as watery as possible, thus giving you "beer water", which is not as delicious for very obvious reasons. The craft breweries are dedicated to flavor and they spend their time focusing on quality. Choose taste - choose craft beer!

2. They Contain More Alcohol

Craft beers may come in many different shapes, sizes and flavors, but these beers will always pack a punch! Craft beers range from 5% - 10% abv (alcohol by volume), and some craft beers can even range from 20% - 40%! When you compare this to the "beer water" that is mass produced by more popular companies, you'll find they average about 2.5%...there truly is no comparison!

3. Craft Beers Offer Health Benefits

Yes, it's true. Beer is normally recognized for it's tendency to go to the gut and produce the infamous "beer belly", but there are many wonderful benefits you many not have known about! Craft beers contain soluble fiber, B vitamins, a range of antioxidants and you will find the richest source of silicon. Having silicon in your diet may help in countering osteoporosis. Everything in moderation of course, but craft beers offer health benefits that are worth noting!

4. Craft Beers Offer More Choices

There are almost 3,000 craft breweries in the United States alone. With these breweries developing thousands upon thousands of different, delicious and flavorful beers, you are not just limited to your same old, boring beers. Even if these breweries happen to brew the "same" beer, it will be different, and special in it's own way!

5. It Has Fewer Calories

This is relative of course. In one drinking session, if you are drinking "beer water", you may need six beers to match the flavor and alcohol content of just three craft beers. This is all supposition of course, but if you drink six boring beers with 100-110 calories in a 12-ounce serving you could get up to 660 calories, versus only three craft beers, which will generally be less than 200 calories a piece giving you no more than 600 calories all together. You are getting better beer, generally a better price, and fewer calories. Plus, craft beers taste better so you'll enjoy those calories more. Craft beer is meant to be enjoyed, not chugged, and definitely not watered down!

6. Different Beers for Different Reasons & Seasons!

Part of the fun in drinking a craft beer is having options! Some beers are better for specific seasons, like fall, summer, football, or spring. Craft beers can match every season, and you'll never have to drink the same old, boring beer. Whether you're going out with friends or drinking alone, there are plenty of different beers to enjoy. Go grab a craft beer and enjoy the varieties!

If you need one more reason why craft beer is amazing, it pairs wonderfully with our delicious food! Casagrotto has amazing beers, but we also have the best pizza at the Lake of the Ozarks! Imagine sitting down this evening in our fun restaurant and enjoying a delicious brick oven pizza that is prepared right in front of you, and then washing it down with a delicious craft beer. You get the best of both worlds when you come enjoy a meal with us!

4 Reasons We Love Brick Oven Pizza!

Brick ovens and pizza have been in existence for hundreds of years. While Casagrotto can't exactly claim that name to fame, we can say that we are the best restaurant at the Lake of the Ozarks! Our brick oven pizzas are delicious and can be handcrafted to your desire! Here are a few reasons we LOVE brick oven pizza.

Faster Cooking Time

Because of the high heat stored in the dense wall space, brick ovens are designed to cook pizza quickly. We love this for many reasons, but most importantly, YOU love this because your perfect pizza comes out faster than ever!

Better Crust

The high temps and the radiating heat bouncing off the walls will crisp the outside of the pizza quickly. Because the pizza is cooked at such a fast speed, any moisture in the dough is sealed off, and the bottom of the crust won't become soggy. The result gives you a flavorful crust that's puffy, but also soft and chewy.

Unique Flavor

Brick oven pizza has a smoky flavor that can't be achieved by any other cooking method. The high temperatures also produce other flavors that can't be reproduced by a slower cooking time. Sometimes the flavor of olive oil becomes understated in such high temperatures, but you can drizzle olive oil over your pizza before eating it!

Crispier Toppings

Because the heat is so intense and the airflow is constant in a brick oven, the toppings will be sealed and cooked evenly and quickly. Vegetables will be crispier than on pizzas made in regular ovens, and most of the vitamins and nutrients won't be lost! The cheese won't burn, but will lend itself to an appealing color and smoky flavor.

These are just a few of our favorite things about delicious brick oven pizzas! When come to dine with us, you will taste the difference. Whether you're in the mood for a traditional pizza, one of our specialty pizzas, or making your own creation, everything is made with the freshest ingredients. Our oven is also custom built - just another reason we're the best place to get pizza at the Lake of the Ozarks!
