5 Reasons to Drink Craft Beer

It's no surprise that as the best bar at the Lake of the Ozarks, we also believe in serving only the BEST beer around. We choose our craft beers specifically for their quality and taste because we only want to provide the best for your drinking pleasure. But what really makes a great craft beer and why should you drink it? Here are a few reasons that craft beer has superior flavor and why you'll probably make it a favorite in no time.

Better Taste

Craft beers tend to have a much richer and distinct taste than mass produced beers. Craft brewers take great pride in the flavor of their beer, so they tend to invest a lot more time and energy in achieving just the right taste. It isn't just a job, it's a passion, a hobby, and an art. When there is so much passion that is invested into a beer, you will find that the quality of the beer is impeccable compared to other companies who may spend more time marketing rather than focusing on flavor.

Incredible Variety

Craft beer gives you plenty of choices compared to the common larger beers by major brewers. There are literally thousands of delicious craft beers coming from the craft breweries who strive to create a unique blend of ingredients. This will give you a beer that can become quite the conversation starter! At Casablanca alone, we keep over 15 craft beers on tap!

Health Benefits

Drinking craft beer isn't just for the flavor, it also provides some great health benefits. Craft beers contain antioxidants, protein, and vitamin B complex. It also contains silicon, and some recent studies say that the hops could help guard against the gradual decline of the brain's cognitive functions. Drinking beer with high-quality ingredients (in moderation) can definitely be beneficial.

More Alcohol

Craft beers at the Lake of the Ozarks do more than just provide great taste, they can also offer you more alcohol by volume. In fact, it can increase the volume by 5 to 10 percent, maybe even 20! Beers that come from macro (mass produced) breweries and jokingly (not!) called 'beer water' because they seldom offer more than 2.5 percent. You will need to drink fewer pints of craft beer when to sit down to a cold one, which is more cost effective for you!

Environmentally Friendly Brewing

Many local brewers work hard to maintain environmentally sustainable practices. They utilize composting, offer spent grain to local farmers, and may even use alternative sources of energy. Craft breweries tend to have a larger concern about eco-friendly practices than just making a large amount of money. You can feel confident that when you fill your pint, you'll know that you are helping to reduce waste and help the environment.

Casablanca at the Lake of the Ozarks

Drinking craft beer isn't just "trendy" or "snobbish," it's truly a way to appreciate an incredible talent. Craft beer may be the in thing right now, but that doesn't change the fact that the flavor is incomparable, and the benefits list is long. Come out to Casablanca this week to check out any of the number of incredible beers that we have on tap to see for yourself. You'll never want to go back!

Raise Your Glass to Drink Beer Day

Did you know that September 28th is Drink Beer Day? There's no other day we can get behind as strongly as this one, so we're going to take a few moments to give it the honor it deserves. Beer is a wonderful beverage with a few great benefits as well! If you didn't know why you should drink beer - here are a few reasons - along with the incredible craft beers at the Lake of the Ozarks that we have on tap.

DID YOU KNOW?

Beer is rich in B vitamins, which comes from all of the yeast. Unfiltered beer is high in B3, B6, and folic acid (B9). B3 can help aid in cell repair and B6 eases PMS. Folic acid can also assist in colon cancer prevention. Who knew all of this good stuff was packed in your pint??

Beer is also high in fiber - and we all know what that will do for you *wink*. It also slows the rate at which food leaves your stomach, which means that it can suppress your appetite. This should provide peace of mind, that when you indulge in a beer, you are helping to prevent overeating.

Did you know that a beer a day can keep the stress and heart attacks away? You may not actually hear this from your doctor, but moderate alcohol consumption can reduce stress and anxiety, which are known contributors to heart disease.

Beer drinkers actually have a lower risk of type-2 diabetes according to multiple studies. In fact, approximately 30% lower than the test subjects who abstained.

Moderate beer consumption is actually good for bone density according to research done at Tufts University. They found a positive link between beer or wine consumption and hip-bone density. Heavy drinking, however, led to bone loss - so just enjoy your beer in moderation.

Beer was not considered an alcoholic beverage in Russia until 2013.

In the land of the pharaohs of Egypt, beer was the national currency.

In Argentina, political parties have their own brands of beer - now THAT'S the way to get the votes *wink*.

In 1963, Albert Heineken created a beer bottle that could also be used as a brick to build sustainable housing in impoverished countries.

When choosing the right beer to drink, a general rule of thumb to remember is that the darker and bitter beers generally have a higher alcohol content.

162,719 pints of Guinness beer are wasted each year due to mustaches ...

The study of beer and beer-making has an official scientific name -zythology. It derives from the Greek word "zythos" (beer) and "logos" (study).

In 1814, almost 400,000 gallons of beer flooded several streets in London after a huge vat ruptured in the parish of St. Giles. Don't worry, we shed a tear over this sad news, too.

American president, George Washington, had his own brewhouse on the grounds of Mount Vernon - who else is ready to make some upgrades after learning this??

A study published in American Journal of Epidemiology estimated that a bottle of beer consumed every day can help reduce the risk of kidney stones by 40%! So, basically, drinking beer is following the doctor's orders, right??

Fun Facts About Beer

It's no secret that we LOVE beer. We have over 15 craft beers on tap and even more in bottles and cans. We take the science of beer seriously. Though, we will admit some of the histories can be rather humorous. You want to know what else can be funny? People once they've drunk beer! I mean, isn't that the reason we drink it? To bring out our funnier, more amusing self? Anyway, here are a few fun facts that you can share before, during, or after you drink the best beer at the Lake of the Ozarks!

Steven Petrosino of New Cumberland, Pennsylvania downed 1 liter of beer or 33 ounces in a chilly 1.3 seconds in 1977 which made him a World Beer Chugging Champion according to the Guinness Book of World Records.

Beer is one of the world's oldest prepared beverages, possibly dating back to the early Neolithic or 6500 BC.

In 1814, almost 400,000 gallons of beer flooded several streets in London after a huge vat ruptured in the parish of St. Giles.

Did you know that beer is the world's most widely consumed alcoholic beverage and the third most popular drink overall (after water and tea)?

Beer supposedly can prevent kidney stones. A study published in American Journal of Epidemiology estimated that a bottle of beer consumed every day reduces the risk by 40%.

Beer commercials in the US aren't really allowed to show people actually drinking the beer. It's a US law that people cannot actually be shown consuming an alcoholic beverage on television. You're probably going to watch your favorite shows a LOT closer now, aren't you?

Do you know what zythology stands for? It is the official scientific name describing the study of beer and beer-making. It comes from the Greek word  "zythos" (beer) and "logos" (study).

Do you think that the US is the most beer-drinking country? Think again! The Czech Republic. Their capita beer consumption is almost 40 gallons per year!

Experimenting with beer is actually a thing. John Lubbock, an 18th-century English biologist, studied the behavior of beer on drunken ants.

If you thought that our fifteen beers on tap was impressive - there are actually about 440 types of beer in the world! Belgium is the country that has the most individual beer brands.

Finally, the fear of an empty beer glass is REALLY a thing. This terrifying phobia is known as Cenosillicaphobia.

Craft Beer at the Lake of the Ozarks!

We have a delicious food menu, and from pizza to burgers, you'll find it all at our local bar at the Lake of the Ozarks. Beer Lore - The Truth Uncovered

If you're like us, there is nothing quite like sitting down to a cold brew after a long day. Whether you pop open a can, screw the top off of a bottle, or come down to the best bar at the Lake of the Ozarks and get it on tap, there are many ways to enjoy your favorite brew. There are many myths that surround this popular beverage, and while these myths may not affect the way you enjoy your drink, some of them may be surprising. Here are a few funny and interesting myths about beer and the truth that can set you free.

Myth:
Beer is meant to be served ice cold.

Truth:
The serving temperature of beer actually varies by style. Did you know that you can't taste beer if it's too cold? Pilsners and IPAs are usually served around 40-44º F, while heavier beers are enjoyed around 55ºF.

Myth:
Craft beers must be aged.

Truth:
While some beers (typically, ones with high alcohol content) should be aged, there are others, like hoppy beers, should be consumed as fresh as possible.

Myth:
When a cold beer gets warm, it's skunked.

Truth:
Temperature changes can affect your beer in some ways, but skunking it is not one of them. Skunked beer is actually caused when a beer is exposed to light, especially if it's a hoppy beer.

Myth:
Dark beer = Strong Beer

Truth:
The color of your beer actually has no correlation on the alcohol or even caloric content. Dark beer's grains are just roasted longer which causes the dark color.

Myth:
The best beers are served in glass bottles.

Truth:
Cans are actually the best way to package beers. They are protected from the light and oxygen better than you will find in bottled beer.

Myth:
All beer tastes the same.

Truth:
If you take the time to try many different beers, you will find that there is an incredible diversity between the flavors in a beer. The styles can range from bitter to sweet to sour. Beer can also vary between no alcohol content to being stronger than wine!

Myth:
Lagers and Pilsners are the same.

Truth:
Pilsners are actually just one of the many lager types. A Pilsner beer is golden and refreshing, while lagers can also be dark, malty, and very strong.

Fun Facts About Beer

  • Beer contains protein and carbohydrates. That makes it healthy, right?
  • In the days of poor sanitation (not that long ago at all and still true in some places), beer was one of the few safe ways to stay hydrated.
  • Your tongue has about 10,000 taste buds, so put them to good work and try out a new beer!
  • Yeast is remarkably sensitive to temperature and can create completely different beers with only a small temperature variation in the brewing process.
