7 Reasons Why Drinking Beer Can Be Good For You

Friday, September 28, 2018, is National Drink Beer Day. (There sure seems to a lot of beer holidays on the calendar, but we don't mind at all!) Drinking beer sometimes gets a bad reputation, but when done in moderation, it can actually have some good health benefits for a person. Since we happen to have an incredible selection of tasty beers at our Lake of the Ozarks bar & restaurant, we're sharing a few of those health benefits in today's blog.

Full of Good Stuff
No, we're not talking about the taste (although that's good too,) but the many nutrients that are found in beer. It has been found to have more B-vitamins than wine and the same amount of antioxidants, just different ones due to the ingredients used to brew beer. Both the B-vitamins and antioxidants may contribute to a decrease in heart disease. Beer also contains fiber and a significant amount of protein.

Lowered Diabetes Risk
Some studies found evidence that people who drank 1-6 beers per week had a lower risk of diabetes than non-drinkers. Once again, we do need to stress that this is a result of moderate drinking. Heavy alcohol consumption can change the benefits we are listing today to impact your health negatively instead.

Better Bones
Beer contains silicon, which is an essential mineral for bone formation. The type found in your pint can help to increase your bone density.

Good Cholesterol
Good cholesterol levels are raised when you drink beer, which helps to improve blood flow. While it is increasing the levels of HDL (which is the good type of cholesterol) it also decreases amounts of LDL (the bad type of cholesterol.)

Sharpens Your Wits
The increased blood flow also improves the blood flow to your brain, which can help to make you slightly smarter. (Unless you have too much, and that's when the bad decisions may begin happening!) Studies have actually been done that showed people with a slight beer buzz solved puzzles faster than their sober counterparts. It also discovered that the testers under the influence were 30% more likely to find the unexpected answer.

A Healthier Mouth
Beer is able to keep some bacteria from forming and growing on your teeth. This means a decreased risk of tooth decay and gum disease. (But you still have to brush them!)

Reduced Inflammation
The hops in beer have anti-inflammatory properties. Many major diseases have been linked to chronic inflammation, such as heart disease, diabetes, arthritis, depression, Alzheimer's, and even cancer.
