Celebrate International Beer Day at Casablanca!

Have you heard that the best day of the year falls on a Friday? August 3rd is International Beer Day, and here’s the best way to celebrate.

Step 1: Head to Casablanca Pub & Grill.

Step 2: Drink beer.

Step 3: Grab a pizza from CasaGrotto.

Step 4: Drink MORE beer!

Join us on Friday, at the best bar at the Lake of the Ozarks for some good food and even better drinks.

How did such an incredible holiday come about? In August 2008, several local beer lovers joined together in Santa Cruz, California to celebrate their love for the drink. Since then, International Beer Day is celebrated in over 200 cities throughout the world during the peak summer month of August. Join us on this holiday to gather together with friends and appreciate brewers and bartenders.

Casablanca was a speakeasy during prohibition AND the oldest bar at the Lake, so we know what we’re doing when it comes to beer. With over 15 craft beers on tap, we’ll help you celebrate this holiday. These kegs of beer are kept at 28 degrees and then pumped through our glycol system which brings these flavors to your frosted glass at 24 degrees. Whether you stick with your go to beer or decide to venture out, our wide variety is sure to satisfy.

SOUTHERN PECAN – Brown Ale – Lazy Magnolia
Southern Pecan Nut Brown Ale lets its malty, caramel, and nutty flavors shine through. In place of grain, pecans are used in the brewing process to provide a deep flavor and dark mahogany color. This beer is brewed by Lazy Magnolia in southern Mississippi. ABV 4.5%.

CONTACT HIGH – Pale Wheat Ale – 4 Hands
Contact High is perfect for summertime. Fresh orange zest and Pacific Northwest hops give this beer a lively taste. This pale wheat ale pours a bright orange hue with a big citrus aroma. This beer is brewed by 4 Hands Brewing Co. in STL. ABV 5%.

BUFFALO SWEAT – Oatmeal Stout – Tallgrass
Don’t swear off stouts until you’ve tried Buffalo Sweat. This oatmeal cream stout is dark beer described as a beer brownie. Its sweet, rich taste and creamy mouthfeel changes the game. This beer is brewed by Tallgrass Brewing, the largest brewery in Kansas. ABV 5%.

SNAPPER – IPA – Logboat
Snapper is an easy drinking, well-balanced IPA with 4 types of American grown hops. Its light, fruity flavors include pears and peaches playing off of piney notes. This beer is brewed by Logboat Brewery in Columbia, MO. ABV 7.2%.

TWISTED PRETZEL – Wheat Ale – Shock Top
Shock Top’s wheat ale has brilliantly combined the taste of a warm, fresh pretzel with a cold, crisp beer. Hints of wheat, caramel malt, orange, and a rich pretzel aroma provide a unique yet familiar flavor. This beer is brewed in St. Louis by Shock Top Brewing Company. ABV 5.2%.

Mark your calendars ladies and gents, and get ready for the greatest beer celebration in August! Grab your friends and head on out to Casablanca for a GREAT time. Enjoy our wide selection of beer, our brick oven pizza, and our welcoming atmosphere here at the best restaurant at the Lake of the Ozarks. Don’t miss out on celebrating this momentous holiday with us, and don’t forget to thank your bartenders! See you on Friday!

3 Reasons to Visit Your Favorite Local Bar

Your favorite local bar means a lot to you, right? Think about all the times you’ve laughed with friends, shared some drinks, and tipped your bartender. Sounds like a ton of fun to us! Not only is Casablanca YOUR favorite local bar, it’s also the best bar at the Lake of the Ozarks! We know you don’t need much convincing to come out for a drink, but here’s three reasons anyway. Grab your friends and family and head on over for a great time!

1. Befriending the Bartenders

It’s always nice to be called by your name, right? Heading out to your local bar is the perfect opportunity to get to know your servers and bartenders. It’s the great servers who make you that delicious, Casagrotto brickoven pizza and the awesome bartenders who serve you that tall, cold glass of your favorite beer that make your local bar so special. By getting to know the owners and employees of your favorite local bar, heading out on a Friday night will feel like going to an old friend’s house.

Local, independent restaurants typically beat chain restaurants in overall quality and customer satisfaction. It only makes sense that the best pub at the Lake of the Ozarks would also have the best service! Our servers and bartenders are friendly, upbeat, and attentive. Don’t believe us? Check out our awesome customer reviews on our Facebook page!

2. YOU are Supporting Your Local Economy

When you visit your local bar, you’re doing much more than just grabbing a drink. You’re investing in your local businesses, and that in turn improves the local economy. Most local restaurant owners keep their spending within the area, so this means you are ultimately helping your town prosper!

As a local bar and grill, we use only the freshest ingredients, our house-made tomato sauce, and a proprietary five cheese blend when making our Casagrotto pizzas. You won’t get this much attention to detail at a chain restaurant! Your favorite bar is special to you, but it also means something to the rest of the Lake area. By stopping in every so often, you’re helping to preserve the unique, local character and atmosphere of the Bagnell Dam Strip!

3. WHY NOT?

Picture this: a sunny, Saturday afternoon, a cold pint of beer, and great friends all around. You’re at Casablanca, aren’t you? Visiting your local bar whenever you get the chance gives you more opportunities to make memories and spend time with your gang. With outdoor seating, live music, and two levels, what more could you want?!

Open for lunch, dinner, and breakfast (on the weekends!), we make it easy for you to stop by whenever you can. Have you tried our famous Casadog or our piled high nachos? How about one of our 21 beers on draft? There’s plenty of reasons for you to visit your favorite local bar!

This weekend, head on over to Casablanca for some good food and a GREAT time. Say hi to your favorite bartender, put some more dollars into your local economy, and try something new. Next time you’re considering staying at home, let us convince you to spend your afternoon or evening at the best bar at the Lake of the Ozarks instead!

Bagnell Dam History

The Lake of the Ozarks is filled with history, tall tales, and folklore. The Dam was completed in 1931 is has really been the core of the area since then. It makes the Lake of the Ozarks, and truly what brings tourists from far and wide to enjoy the most recreational Lake in the nation (as voted by USA Today in 2016). From fishing to water sports and all sized watercraft skating the surface of the Lake, we will always love our Bagnell Dam. Of course, your favorite bar and grill at the Lake of the Ozarks resides on the Bagnell Dam Strip, and also holds a large portion of history, as we've been here since 1928, so we know a thing or two *wink*. Here are some interesting tidbits about the history of Bagnell Dam for those who aren't familiar with it!

Bagnell Dam History

It all started in 1912, when Ralph W. Street of Kansas City first proposed damming the Osage River with plans to generate electricity. Yet, it took twelve more years (until 1924) when  Street and Walter Cravens were able to arrange the financing and formed the Missouri Hydro-Electric Power Company.

It still took some time to get the ball rolling because the company had to start building roads and housing for the anticipated employees. In 1926, though, financial difficulties put a halt to the project, and it didn't pick back up until July 27th, 1929. Union Electric Company of St. Louis (now known as Ameren Missouri) purchased all of the facilities and construction resumed on August 6th. It was a bit untimely because the New York Stock Exchange crashed just two months later bringing the Great Depression. Amazingly, the work was able to continue, and the building of Bagnell Dam actually became the only major construction project in the nation at the time. It attracted THOUSANDS of workers from all over the country. In fact, records show that more than 20,000 people worked on the project at one time or another.

Some powered equipment was used in building the dam, but most of the labor was done by hand. Pay rates for construction workers at the time were as low as 35 cents an hour. This may sound like small, but during the depression era, a person could be hired for farm work for 50 cents a DAY - and workers were glad for an hourly wage during that time.

After acquiring 60,000 acres of land, 30,000 of which were trees and brush, moving one million cubic yards of earth and rock, and then pouring enough concrete to build and 18-foot wide highway from St. Louis to Topeka Kansas, the Dam was finished. It took two years, but in October of 1931, the Osage Power Plant began commercial operation.

At its time, Bagnell Dam was truly an engineering marvel. While the original purpose was to generate energy, they probably had no idea that the Lake of the Ozarks would be the recreational phenomenon that it is today.

The Bagnell Dam Strip Today

We are proud to be such a integral part of the history of Bagnell Dam. In fact, our wood floors and walls were actually made using wood from trees that were cut down at the time! Of course, now, we just love being apart of the tradition and enjoying all that the Bagnell Dam Strip has to offer. From fun monthly events like Hot Summer Nights, to a place where people come to stroll and shop - Casablanca at the Lake of the Ozarks is the best restaurant at the Lake of the Ozarks to come visit. We have great burgers, Dam dogs, and of course, the best craft beer around. Come out and sit a spell. We have seating on the patio so you can wach the Bagnell Dam activity, or plenty of seats indoors where you can watch the game. Our biggest improvement this year is that we've become non-smoking. We listened to our customers and have been glad to oblige. Stop by and see us next time you're at the Bagnell Dam Strip!

Pizzas and Pints - The Perfect Pair!

There’s something about a good ‘ole slice of pizza paired with an ice cold beer. It fits any season, from the hot days of summer to the dreary days of winter. The best news is that this Friday, May 18th, is Pizza Party Day - so it’s the PERFECT time to come check out our great selection of beer and pizza at the Lake of the Ozarks! Here are a few pizza and beer pairings that we suggest to make your pizza eating experience the best.

Beer & Pizza Pairings

Have you always wondered what type of pizza you should eat with your favorite beer, or vice versa? Here are our favorite pizzas from the Casagrotto menu (the best pizza at the Lake of the Ozarks!), and what craft beer you should enjoy with it.

CHUCKY CHEESE & SCHLAFLY PALE ALE
This is your basic cheese pizza, but it’s not THAT basic. Our delicious tomato sauce with a fantastic five cheese blend. It’s a whole new meaning to cheese pizza! Pair this pizza with a good ‘ole Pale Ale - a classic pizza deserves a classic beer, after all! Pale Ales have a pungent hop, but it’s also restrained with just enough bitterness to work with the cheese.

PEPPERONI CLASSICO & SOUTHERN PECAN BROWN ALE
Like cheese pizza, a classic pepperoni is about as Italian American as you can get. The flavorful tomato sauce paired with the 5-cheese blend, flavored pepperoni, & basil are exceptional! The slightly spicy notes from the pepperoni pair wonderfully well with the malty-ness of a brown ale. Especially when it has some caramel sweetness like you’ll find in our Southern Pecan.

MARGHERITA & STELLA ARTOIS
We make a fantastic Margherita pizza. The basil pesto sauce, fresh soft mozzarella, & MORE basil make for a wonderful burst of flavor. When you want a great beer pairing for this pizza, give the Stella Artois Lager a try! The crisp flavors in this pizza call for and complement this nice lager. It pairs well with the crust and the sauce to make for the perfect pizza eating experience.

POLLO & BUFFALO SWEAT
A classic chicken pizza with our famous tomato sauce, signature cheese blend, chicken, sun-dried tomatoes, artichokes, & basil. This delicious pizza will pair wonderfully with our Buffalo Sweat beer. It’s an oatmeal stout and a dark beer. The dense, dark beer will cut through the rich flavors of chicken, and the dark finish of basil and pesto work wonderfully together.

HAWAIIAN & CONTACT HIGH
Hawaiian pizzas can spark some controversy at the dinner, table, but for those who love pineapple on their pizza, we have an incredible pizza to offer! It’s topped with tomato sauce, pineapple, & Canadian bacon. If you’re looking for a good beer pairing with this pizza, we suggest the Contact High. It’s a pale wheat ale from 4 Hands, and it boasts of a beautiful orange hue with incredible citrus aromas. This pairs well with the pineapple and bacon in the pizza!

It’s Time to Get Your Pizza and Pint!

Come out to Casagrotto this weekend and enjoy your favorite Lake of the Ozarks pizza and pint of beer. The weather this weekend is going to be ideal for getting out to your favorite Lake of the Ozarks bar and enjoying a drink. It’s going to be cloudy with a chance of beer, and the temps will be high enough that you’ll be glad for an ice cold beer! Come out and see us, we’ll be waiting for you.

Testimonials About Your Favorite Pub

Casablanca at the Lake of the Ozarks is well known as one of the best bars at the Lake of the Ozarks. We provide an amazing atmosphere, great food, and of course, incredible beer. You don't have to take our word for it! Here are only a FEW of the raving reviews that our incredible clients left about us in 2017 and we wanted to share them with you!

Busy For A Good Reason

"Came for dinner with my wife on an oddly warm February Friday night. We sat outside and the beautiful weather complemented the great food, solid service, and friendly clientele. It's certainly crowded--ten minutes before we left, we already had a group of women asking if they could lay claim to our table--but it's worth it.

We went simple with the food, with a salad and a Margherita pizza. The salad was excellent, with what tasted like house-made blue cheese dressing. The pizza was thin crust that had a nice mix of chewiness and burnt crispiness (in a good way, not a bad way). Pretty cheesy, with rich pesto sauce, but we were starving so the non-diet approach was perfect.
Beer selection was acceptable (I'm a snob) and the waitress was sharp and friendly. We will definitely be back." - MJennings, Columbia, MO

Love It!!!

"Came here with another couple on a Friday night. Had appetizers, drinks, and dinner. Found a great table with a wonderful waitress who treated us well the whole time we were there. The food was fabulous especially the pizza. Drinks were cold and mixed well. The entertainment was fun and we had a fabulous time singing along with the crowd. Loved Cheryl's voice and she's a real sweetie.
It was packed so get there early!" - Wolfgangtaffy, Camdenton, MO

To Go

"Working an event at the lake. Stopped in to get a pizza to go. Fresh from scratch hot and delicious!! Pizza crust is amazing. Staff was very friendly and attentive." - Tim D.

Best Pizza Anywhere

"The pizza is all made from scratch by hand. Rick will hand toss your pizza dough right behind the counter. All the ingredients are fresh or local homemade like the sausage. These pizzas are superloaded with ingredients and cooked to perfection. In the brick pizza oven. Try the JordanMeister or Cheryl Doormman, my favorites. And many craft beers and the Calzones are always great too." - Carl B. Edwardsville, IL

Best Pizza By Far!!!

This very quaint restaurant provides the best pizza at The Lake! Rick is the chef providing the most unique, delicious custom pizzas. I suggest you sit near the cook station for a performance that will be unforgettable! Try the Carole with anchovies!!!!!!!" - Al P P, Osage Beach, MO

Ready to Try For Yourself?

The Lake of the Ozarks is filled with incredible restaurants, but there is only ONE Casablanca! Join us any day of the week after 11 AM for the best lunch at the Lake of the Ozarks or later in the evenings for dinner, too! Casablanca is one of the oldest restaurants at the Lake of the Ozarks and conveniently located on the Bagnell Dam Strip. Come see us and add your raving testimonial to the crowd.

Fun Atmosphere

There's just something about the Casagrotto atmosphere that makes for a fun place to hang out. Maybe it's the rich history this building holds, like having original wood floors and walls from trees cut down while Bagnell Dam was being built. Maybe it's all of the wonderful memories that have been cultivated into the place through years and year, and YEARS of fun events with friends. Maybe it's just that the customers we have on a regular basis make the environment perfect. Maybe it's a combination of all of it! No matter what the reason, the Casablanca basement, also known as Casagrotto is the perfect environment for a great party. Of course, we think it's probably because the basement used to be a speakeasy *wink*.

If you've never tried any of our Lake of the Ozarks food, you ought to come by sometime to try it and find out for yourself. If the thought of our pizza doesn't get you to host a party here, maybe our beer will ...

Ice Cold Beer

At Casagrotto we take our beer very seriously. We have over 15 craft beers on tap. These kegs of beer are kept at 28 degrees and then pumped through our glycol system which brings these flavors to your frosted glass at 24 degrees. You'll love our line up of beer with our rainbow Casagrotto sign above them, too. Our bar is always a happy place to be, and that's not just because of the people that share the bar stool next to you, but because of the high-quality beer at the Lake of the Ozarks, that's served up.

The Party Place at the Lake of the Ozarks

If you're interested in booking CasaGrotto for a holiday party, you need to get your date saved NOW. We only take reservations on Monday through Wednesday in December, so keep that in mind as you finish planning your party details as well. Raise Your Glass to Drink Beer Day

Did you know that September 28th is Drink Beer Day? There's no other day we can get behind as strongly as this one, so we're going to take a few moments to give it the honor it deserves. Beer is a wonderful beverage with a few great benefits as well! If you didn't know why you should drink beer - here are a few reasons - along with the incredible craft beers at the Lake of the Ozarks that we have on tap.

DID YOU KNOW?

Beer is rich in B vitamins, which comes from all of the yeast. Unfiltered beer is high in B3, B6, and folic acid (B9). B3 can help aid in cell repair and B6 eases PMS. Folic acid can also assist in colon cancer prevention. Who knew all of this good stuff was packed in your pint??

Beer is also high in fiber - and we all know what that will do for you *wink*. It also slows the rate at which food leaves your stomach, which means that it can suppress your appetite. This should provide peace of mind, that when you indulge in a beer, you are helping to prevent overeating.

Did you know that a beer a day can keep the stress and heart attacks away? You may not actually hear this from your doctor, but moderate alcohol consumption can reduce stress and anxiety, which are known contributors to heart disease.

Beer drinkers actually have a lower risk of type-2 diabetes according to multiple studies. In fact, approximately 30% lower than the test subjects who abstained.

Moderate beer consumption is actually good for bone density according to research done at Tufts University. They found a positive link between beer or wine consumption and hip-bone density. Heavy drinking, however, led to bone loss - so just enjoy your beer in moderation.

The Best Beer at the Lake of the Ozarks

At Casagrotto we take our beer very seriously. We have over 15 craft beers on tap. These kegs of beer are kept at 28 degrees and then pumped through our glycol system which brings these flavors to your frosted glass at 24 degrees.

Celebrating Family History Month

We LOVE our family, and our family is YOU! We have such a great group of customers who enjoy hanging out with us for lunch or dinner any and every day of the week. While some of you have been dining with us for only a short while, we have so many customers who have been with us for DECADES! As a way of celebrating our Casablanca Family History, we have some fun facts for you about our restaurant! Do you have fun memories of our family history?? We want to hear YOUR stories!

The Casablanca History

Did you know that we have a very LONG history at the Lake of the Ozarks? The building that our restaurant resides in was built in 1928 - and we've been Casablanca since the 1930's (with a short break during the late 90's where it was called Slick's Biker Bar.), so our family history is quite the story! Check out our historical timeline!

1928: Building was built.
1929: Building became first Lake Ozark Post Office.
1933: Prohibition ended and the building was turned into Casablanca.
1998: Casablanca was sold and renamed Slick's Biker Bar.
