Fun on the Bagnell Dam Strip!

If you haven't heard, this entire week is dedicated to the Shootout at the Lake of the Ozarks and we couldn't be more proud of such an incredible event. If you've never participated in this fun event, we would love to introduce you to all of the fun events that are happening surrounding it - including a party at Casablanca with special live music!

Shootout History

The Lake Rescue Shootout started in 1988 as an event in which many local boats participated simply to establish who had the fastest boat. As the years went by it became a bigger and bigger event that also helped supplement the Lake Area Fire Departments water rescue efforts.

NOW, the Shootout is the largest unsanctioned boat race in the US and named one of the nation’s eight “must-see” boating events according to Powerboat Magazine. The Shootout will take place for the ninth year at Captain Ron’s Bar & Grill in Sunrise Beach (Lake Road 5-50, mile marker 34.5). The event raises funds for eight Lake-area rescue teams and numerous other charitable organizations; last year, $195,000.00 to 34 different Charities and Fire Departments. The Shootout is alive and well and looking forward to the 29th year in August of 2017.

Hang Out on the Bagnell Dam Strip

While the Shootout takes place on the water, you can get out and participate in the Meet and Greet on the Strip TONIGHT, Wednesday 23rd from 5 to 10 PM. This is a fun chance to meet the drivers of the boats, take photos with your favorites, and see how COOL these boats really are up close and personal. Not to mention, it's fun to hang out on the Bagnell Dam Strip with all of the other people to enjoy this event. Of course ... let's not forget that your favorite restaurant at the Lake of the Ozarks is located on the Bagnell Dam Strip as well!

A Magic Night with The Magic Dragon Car Show 🐉

Summer is right around the corner, and the Lake is waking up from its winter sleep. Events are popping up all over, and every weekend seems to be hopping with excitement. The Bagnell Dam Strip is no exception! There are some amazing events coming up, and we want you to be the first to know about them! In just a few weeks there is ONE MASSIVE SHOW & legendary weekend hitting the Strip, and you'll definitely want to be there. Here are all of the details about the Magic Dragon Car Show!

About the Event

This unique show is meant for all makes, models, and years of cars, trucks, and motorcycles. In 2016 this fun event at the Lake of the Ozarks celebrates its 28th year! We had phenomenal weather, about 1,000 participants, and almost 10,000 spectators! With over 25 years of show experience, you can be assured that you will enjoy yourself. The Historic Bagnell Dam Strip is the ideal location for our fun event, and we even close the strip down to normal traffic during show hours. This ensures that we only have show vehicles within the boundaries! The electric atmosphere is incredible, some even say it's like being on the set of "American Graffiti".

How Did They Get Their Name?

Have you ever looked at an aerial view of the Lake of the Ozarks? Some folks say that it looks just like a big dragon (a dragon that is over 90 miles long!). It winds its way through the Ozark hills, and several years ago the area was dubbed "The Land of the Magic Dragon." At the very first show in 1987, they used the name "Magic Dragon" and it has stuck with them ever since.

Fun Facts About St. Pat's to Share Over a Pint

Over 64 million Americans will be celebrating St. Patricks Day, and whether they're going to parties or coming out to their favorite bar at the Lake of the Ozarks, it's going to be a great weekend! We would love to see you, share the luck of the Irish, and even invite you to try our special Reuben pizza that is ONLY available until March 17th.

If you're planning on enjoying the evening at the bar, here are a few fun facts to share with your local leprechauns while you enjoy a pint, or two!

To celebrate St. Patrick's Day, 110 million people will celebrate the day by wearing green, eating an Irish-inspired meal, or going out to celebrate.

The largest St. Patrick's Day parade in the United States, and held since 1762, is in New York City. It draws more than one million spectators each year.

In Ireland, St. Patrick's Day is a religious holiday similar to Christmas and Easter.

The very first St. Patrick's Day parade was not in Ireland. It was in Boston in 1737.

The city of Chicago is so excited about St. Patrick's Day that they dye their river green, and have been doing it since 1962! They used 45 pounds of vegetable-based die to accomplish this.

Who knew that cards for St. Patrick's day were popular?! Apparently, there are 15 million cards that are exchanged on St. Patrick's Day.

33.7 million U.S. residents who are of Irish ancestry. That number is almost nine times the population of Ireland itself.

While green is the color of the day, St. Patrick was actually known for wearing "Saint Patrick's blue." Yet green is popular because it is the color of spring, of Ireland, and of the shamrock.

Reuben pizza at Casablanca!
Because Ireland is primarily Catholic, and March 17th occurs in the midst of Lent, they named St. Patrick's Day a religious holiday so that the bars would close and beer wasn't served. They finally got "lucky" in 1961 when the holiday was introduced as a national holiday and the pubs and bars reopened!

Cabbage shipments increase by about 70% during the week of St. Patrick's Day.

The Best Beer at the Lake of the Ozarks!

If you're ready to celebrate St. Patrick's Day at the Lake of the Ozarks the right way - come out to Casablanca on March 17th (and all of the days leading up to it!) We always have a cold beer waiting for you, and your seat ready at the bar. The brick oven is hot and ready to make your favorite pizza pie, and the company is always fun. Come out to the Bagnell Dam Strip and find your own Irish luck - and don't forget to swap some fun facts about this fun holiday with your friends.
