The Best Dam Dogs

Hot Dog Day is July 18th - and there’s really only one way to celebrate. You need to enjoy the BEST hot dogs at the Lake of the Ozarks - and if you wash it down with a pint of Lake of the Ozarks craft beer, you’ll be living the dream. Summer isn’t complete without a great hot dog (or beer for that matter!), so we want to introduce you to some of our incredible hot dogs - your mouth will probably be watering afterward, though!

Casablanca Hot Dogs

We have the BEST DAM DOGS, and they are all served with chips and a pickle. Don’t forget to ask your server about substituting with fries, coleslaw, potato salad, or pasta salad.

Stripped Down Dog
This is just your basic dog with his bun. Nothing crazy, nothing interrupting the incredible flavor. If you just want a classic meal, this is the perfect way to get it.

Chili Dog
It seems pretty self-explanatory, but there’s nothing ordinary about the Casa Chili Dog. Bursting with flavor, packed with spice, and still the wonderful classic flavor of a good ole’ dog.

Dam Dog
The flavorful hot dog meets flavorful toppings! Yellow mustard, chopped onion, green relish, sport pepper, tomato, pickle, and celery salt. It’s the perfect combination of flavors to make for an amazing summer meal.

Cove ’N’ Out Dog
Cove ’n’ out is one of the most fantastic ways to enjoy a summer at the Lake of the Ozarks. Likewise, eating this hot dog is ALSO a great way to enjoy your summer vacation. It’s topped with spicy brown mustard, sauerkraut, and grilled onions. The perfect combination of salty, spicy, and tangy.

Whiskey Dent Dog
This is the perfect combination of smoky flavors, good ole’ country cooking, and the hot dogs that are loved by everyone. This dog is topped with BBQ sauce, coleslaw, and crispy fried onions. Sounds delish, doesn’t it?

Nacho Dog
This is “nacho” ordinary hot dog. A juicy hot dog topped with cheese, tomato, lettuce, jalapeno, and sour cream. #yum

1. Frankfurt-am-Main, Germany, is typically credited with originating the frankfurter. Yet, this claim is also disputed by those who assert that the popular sausage we love so much. Some say it was created in the late 1600’s by Johann Georghehner, a butcher who lived in Coburg, Germany. Either way - we love ‘em!
2. Baseball fans will consume more than 26 million hot dogs at US baseball stadiums - which is enough to circle the bases 36,000 times.
3. The average hot dog is consumed in 6.1 bites (this was tested on the average sized mouth … ).
4. From Memorial Day to Labor Day every year, Americans typically consume 7 billion hot dogs. That’s about 818 hot goes consumed every second.

Celebrate Hot Dog Day!

Did you know that July 19th is Hot Dog Day? The perfect summer time feast gets a whole day to celebrate, and whether you like them with just ketchup and mustard or the works - we're glad to dedicate a day to this popular food. Fun Facts About Hot Dogs

Did you ever think that there could be fun things to know about these linked sausage-like foods? Well, there are! Here are a few fun things to know about hot dogs that you can share while sitting around our table eating them.

The Origin is Unknown

While sausage and linked sausage has been around for a while, the theory of putting that sausage in a bun and serving it hasn't. Of course, the real origin is completely unknown - but that doesn't mean many try to claim it! The officials in Frankfurt, Germany say that hot dogs were invented in their city in 1487. Another tale is that a butcher named Johann Georghehner, who lived in Coburg, Germany, invented the hot dog during the late 1600s, and then traveled to Frankfurt to promote his new food. N matter what the history - we're just glad someone invented them!

Do You Use Hot Dog Etiquette?

Yes, that's really a thing. Eating your hot dog isn't enough, you have to do it the "right way" according to the American meat trade associations official etiquette guide says that you shouldn't douse your hot dog with ketchup or mustard if you are over the age of 18 or eat it with a knife and fork. Do you like your hot dog on a fancy bun? That's not acceptable either. BUT, did you know that you aren't supposed to eat your hot dog on anything fancier than a paper plate? Of course, a few things that you are supposed to do when eating your hot dog are to always eat every piece of the hot dog and bun, pair it with simple drinks and sides, and always lick any condiments off of your fingers.

Hot Dogs In Space?

Yep, it's been done! Amazingly enough, astronauts on the Apollo 7 mission in 1968 didn't really like the freeze-dried ice cream that they were served, so it was removed from the space menu and became a novelty in the gift shops. Ironically, a classic meal that WAS enjoyed by the crewmembers on the Apollo 11 mission was the space hot dogs.

Americans LOVE Hot Dogs

We're not kidding, either. On July 4th, Americans enjoyed over 150 million hot dogs. Between Memorial Day and Labor Day, Americans will eat a staggering 7 BILLION hot dogs, and in 2015, U.S. supermarket customers spent more than $2.5 billion on hot dogs alone.

DAM DOG

NACHO DOG
This is "nacho" ordinary dog! It comes complete with cheese, tomato, lettuce, jalapeno, and sour cream!

Happy National Hot Dog Day!

Casablanca is a very popular restaurant at the Lake of the Ozarks. We are known for our famous hamburgers, delicious fries, great bar, and of course the Best Dam Dogs. July 23rd is an entire day dedicated to hot dogs! Since our dogs are the Best Dam Dogs on the Bagnell Dam Strip, we think this is the perfect opportunity to educate you on our delicious hot dog menu, and give you a few fun facts about this family favorite.

Fun Facts About Hot Dogs

1. The council estimates that Americans consume 20 billion hot dogs a year - more than twice the
retail sales figures. Basically, that's 70 hot dogs per American.

2. The first hot dog stand to open in America was in 1971 by Charles Feltman. He was a German butcher and he opened the first stand at Coney Island. He sold 3,684 dachshund sausages in a milk roll in his first year. 

3. One barbeque king theorizes that hot dogs are sold in packages of 10 and buns are sold in packages of 8 because 2 of the hot dogs always fall through the grill, so only 8 buns are needed.

4. Hot dog etiquette states that you should not use ketchup on your hot dog after the age of 18. Mustard, relish, onions, cheese and chili are acceptable.

5. Legend has is that hot dogs or frankfurters originated in Frankfurt-am-Main Germany around 1484.

6. Hot dog season lasts from the unofficial start of summer, Memorial Day, until the unofficial end of summer, Labor Day. Of course at Casablanca, hot dog season is ALL year long!
