1. Since 1987, October has been officially designated National Pizza Month in the United States.

2. Approximately three billion pizzas are sold in the U.S. every year, plus an additional

one billion frozen pizzas!

3. Women are twice as likely as men to order vegetarian toppings on their pizza.

4. Ninety-three percent of Americans eat pizza at least once a month.

5. More pizza is consumed during the week of the Super Bowl than an other time of the year.

6. The first pizzeria in the U.S. was opened by Gennaro Lombardi in 1895 in New York City.

7. About 1 in 8 Americans eat pizza any given day, with pre-teens eating about two times 

the national average.

8. The most expensive pizza in the world is $12,000. It is prepared by chef Renato Viola in your home. The toppings include caviar, red prawns, lobster and sea cicada. 

9. In 2011 pizza was considered a "vegetable" by the government. School meals that are subsidized by the government must contain a certain amount of vegetables, and a serving of pizza with two tablespoons of tomato sauce actually met those requirments.

10. In 2014 a pizza delivery guy received a $1,268 tip from 3,000 students at Wesleyan University.

11. Mozzarella is found on 60% of pizza menus because it has the highest moisture and lowest quantity of free oil. It has the best baking properties for pizza.

12. On average, each person in the United States eats around 23 pounds of pizza every year.
